Dog Calorie Calculator

Calculate how many calories your dog needs per day based on weight, life stage, and activity level using the veterinary RER formula.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is RER and why does it matter?
RER (Resting Energy Requirement) = 70 × weight(kg)⁰·⁷⁵. It's the minimum calories needed to sustain life at rest. Your dog's actual needs are RER × an activity/life-stage multiplier.
How much should I feed my neutered adult dog?
Neutered adult dogs need about 1.4× RER. An active intact dog needs up to 2× RER. Puppies and lactating dogs need the most — up to 2.5× RER.
Should I feed based on current or ideal weight?
If your dog is overweight, calculate calories using their target weight rather than current weight to avoid overfeeding.
