Frequently Asked Questions
- How is dog age converted to human years?
- The AVMA-aligned method uses breed-size-specific curves rather than the outdated '7x rule'. Small breeds age more slowly and live longer, while giant breeds age faster — so a 5-year-old Great Dane is much older in human terms than a 5-year-old Chihuahua.
- What counts as a 'small' vs 'large' breed?
- Small: under 10 kg (22 lbs). Medium: 10–25 kg. Large: 25–45 kg. Giant: over 45 kg. If your dog is on the border, choose the next size up to be conservative.
- When is a dog considered a senior?
- It depends on size. Small breeds: around 11 years. Medium: 9 years. Large: 8 years. Giant breeds: 7 years. At these ages, senior wellness checks twice a year are recommended.
